TeamCBC Cycling Tip – Changing Out your Pedals

Now that you’ve followed my advice and bought some new pedals on-line from one of our sponsors, how do you change them out?

First of all, you’re going to need an 6mm or 8mm hex tool depending on the pedal. This is basically a very large Allen wrench.

Then you unscrew them like normal, Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey, right? Well you’re half right. When you unscrew the drive side pedal you turn it anti clockwise. However on the non drive side, you turn it clockwise to loosen it.

One way to remember is that when pedaling you are turning the pedals in the same direction as you would to unscrew them. If it were the opposite, you’d never get them off. Also on some pedals there is an arrow which shows which way to tighten them.
