Bob Oderkirk - Ride Captain
Bob joined TeamCBC in 2007 on the urgings of his riding mentor and friend Bob Dillon. When he joined, the team was only 38 people strong and rode only in the MS150 in New Bern, raising a phenomenal $33k. To prep for the 100-mile ride, the team rode four times that Summer. Afterward, Bob organized a biweekly ride from the brewery, resulting in a doubling of both the number of riders and the funds raised for MS. in 2009, with help from several cycling friends, he started weekly rides from CBC and the team grew to over 100 people and raised more than $94k. The weekly rides have remained a constant throughout the year since then, with regular attendance exceeding 100 riders in the late Summer.
Since its inception, the team has grown exponentially, with more rides, more routes, and more fundraising. By 2012 the team had expanded sufficiently to have developed into a riding and social club, enhancing its initial identity as an MS team. Bob spearheaded the move to a non-profit entity with a full-scale board of directors to help organize and run the club. By that point, Bob had begun to encourage a move towards destination rides, including our epic RAGBRAI experience in 2015.
Bob was President of TeamCBC for the first two years and has remained on the board as an at-large member to help organize and move the club forward. He has been our BikeMS Team Captain since 2008 as well as being involved in numerous additional charitable cycling events throughout the year. His goal has been to make cycling fun and to help others to learn and grow to love cycling. Bob hopes that TeamCBC can continue its success in fundraising for BikeMS and that the club can hit the two million mark by 2023 if not before.
